BB-Roma offer a lot of accommodations close to Piazza Colonna, built at the end of 500, takes its name from the Column of Marcus Aurelius that once stood here since ancient times
It is located on the central Via del Corso, surrounded by important historical buildings, facing the Palazzo Chigi (Head of the Board of Ministers) near Montecitorio (Parliament building) and the Pantheon, near the Galleria Colonna (now Galleria Alberto Sordi).
The column was built between 176 and 192 to celebrate, after his death, the victories of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius (161-180) . It was 29,6 meters high (42 meters if you include the base), is still in its original location
The monument, covered with bas-reliefs, is inspired by the Trajan's Column. The sculptural frieze that is rolled up in a spiral around the stem, if carried out, would exceed 110 meters in length.
Originally on the top of the column was the bronze statue of Marcus Aurelius, which was destroyed in the Middle Ages. From 1589 on top of the column is a bronze statue of St. Paul
Not far from the column is an elegant fountain, designed by Giacomo Della Porta, where  two groups of dolphins emerge from the water and a small bowl in the center: these elements, were added to the fountain in the first half of the nineteenth century , following the restoration of the fountain.
