Easter in Rome: the museum is free

Rome joined the initiative implemented by the Ministry of Culture which opens free museums and archaeological works on the first Sunday of the month.

Next Sunday useful for this initiative coincides with Easter, you can celebrate by visiting a museum. You can choose on the website of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage Museum to visit and enjoy the visit. To be sure it is advisable to call the structures to check schedules and availability, some structures that expose new and prestigious collections not participating.

Colosseum, Domus Aurea, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, the National Gallery of Ancient and Modern Art, the Borghese Gallery are just some of the structures that make available their treasures for those who want to spend Easter Sunday and the first Sunday of every other month to museums.

The initiative, designed to bring art and culture, is extended to the whole Italian territory, came into force with the decree Franceschini on 1 July 2014 and will start recording from the first months a great success.

The "Sunday at the Museum" at the date of March 1, shows high numbers of appreciation especially in Rome: here, the Colosseum has recorded 11189 visitors, in 3073 chose Castel San'Angelo, while 2662 visitors came to the Palazzo Barberini and in 2602 preferred the Gallery of Modern Art.

This operation is designed to enhance tourism in Italy, to raise awareness of the municipalities to make available to their cultural and artistic resources and enhance them.

At the same time we want to educate the people of Italian art and culture and give more opportunities to all foreign tourists who choose Italy for their holidays.
