Inside we can admire a beautiful example of Roman art of the fourteenth century, with three naves separated by less than 122 columns retrieved from other ancient structures. Major renovations, launched on the occasion of the Jubilee of 2000, have identified decorative pieces of great value, including frescoes by late medieval period.

The Basilica includes many works of great artists, among which Donatello, Pietro Cavallini, Benozzo Gozzoli and Pinturichio.
