BB-Roma offers B&B in Rome Saint Angel Castle, the mausoleum dedicated to the Emperor Hadrian, begun in 125 AD and intended to accommodate the family tomb and was completed only in 139, a year after his death.
Was transformed into a fortress in the Middle Ages to defend against the Visigoths, became prison, papal palace, to be now a museum. The original building was modified over time with various architectural interventions that led him to the current version.
The famous “passetto”, still largely viable, built by Pope Nicholas III (1277 - 1280), allowed the Pope to escape, in case of danger, from the Basilica of St. Peter, to the fortress of Castel Sant'Angelo in absolute safety from enemies.

The name of the Castel Sant'Angelo is due to the plague of 590; during a procession led by Pope Gregory I, he had a vision of the Archangel Michael on the Hadrian, in which the angel unsheathed the sword, a sign that was interpreted as the end of the plague and so it happened.
It was so erected a statue of the Archangel as well as appeared in a dream.
Today it can be visited until the panoramic terrace, which offers a beautiful view of the city.
During the summer, the closing time is delayed until late at night, giving you the chance to visit at night, the visit is really impressive.
