The Capitoline Hill, Qurinale, the most famous among the seven  hills of Rome, on which stood the Temple of Jupiter, god of the highest city, was formed by two hills separated by a depression, was once called the Mount of Saturn, name of the god best known in ancient Rome. On the two peaks were elevated two temples, one dedicated to the Capitoline Triad (Jupiter - Juno - Minerva), the other (on which now stands the church dell'Aracoeli) dedicated to Juno Moneta, where he was the mint. Between the two peaks corresponded to the current Capitoline Hill, where according to legend, Romulus established his headquarters.

In Capitol Square since the Middle Ages the seat of Rome's civic government

The Senatorial Palace is connected through the Lapidary Gallery, to the  Capitoline Museums in the Palace of the Conservatives and the New Palace.
The bronze statue of Marcus Aurelius (located in Piazza del Campidoglio in the sixteenth century) is the only equestrian statue of the classical period came to us still intact. But what is now tourists can see is just a copy, as the original, after a bombing Senatorial Palace in 1979, was damaged and subjected to restoration and then exposed in the Capitoline Museums.
The statue was made in 176 A.D. but on its location there are several hypotheses, but is certain is that in 1539 Michelangelo was decided the current location.
This statue represent  the Emperor Marcus Aurelius holding an outstretched arm, even here made several
suppositions ; perhaps holding a scroll, or was it an act of clemency to a prisoner in origin at the foot of the horse, or perhaps a gesture of peace and prosperity.
